  • Garth Brooks’ “That Summer” Turns Over Two Decades Old

Hard to believe that 1993 was 24 years ago.  Harder to believe that it was 24 years ago the Garth Brooks song, “That Summer” Garth Brooks had a No. 1 single.  Would you be surprised to know that the song almost wasn't?

The theme of “young man loses virginity to older, experienced woman” is common; the same theme was used in the 1967 film, “The Graduate” and in the “Summer of '42” film of 1971.

The lyrics are not blatant, but it is apparent what is transpiring, or about to transpire.  Although fictitious, there are rumors that the story behind the song is autobiographical.

But it started off quite differently than the end result.

Go to the next page to find out the original version of Brooks' popular song…. I think you will be quite surprised…
