Alison Krauss has a voice that really is a gift to anyone who hears it. As cheesy as it sounds, the only thing we can compare it to is a choir of angels because that's how we expect them to sound, right? This is especially true when she covered Keith Whitley's signature song, “When You Say Nothing At All”. Written by Paul Overstreet and Dan Schlitz, “When You Say Nothing At All” was released in 1988 on Keith Whitley's Don't Close Your Eyes album.
It reached #1 on both the U.S. and Canadian country charts. There are only two notable covers and they feature Alison, of course, and Irish pop star Ronan Keating. Alison's version included her bluegrass country group Union Station and was released in 1994 on Keith Whitley: A Tribute Album.
Though Keith Whitley is the original storyteller of this beautiful tune, and no one can sing this song like him, there's just something about Alison's version that can really bring a person to their knees and want to be near their loved one and never let go.
