  • Cole Swindell Pens Heartfelt Tribute To His Late Father

Swindell didn't shy away from opening up about the personal pain behind the moving song. In fact, he revealed that he wrote the song on tour, while sitting outside of a football stadium.

“I thought about my dad,” he continues. “Just all the things that I get to do. It ain’t even for the folks that maybe haven’t lost somebody, maybe you just miss somebody. Maybe you have family in another state, or there’s those moments in life that we all get to share, and it’s like if that one person was here, man, they’d freak out, they would love it.”

“And I think that’s why this song means so much: it’s personal. But I got into country music to record and write songs that mean something to people, and I think having this first album and four hit songs, I think that’s allowed me to say what I wanna say. At this point in my life I get to do a lot of special things.”

We're saddened to hear about what inspired the song, but hopefully Swindell got some comfort from sharing his story and paying a loving tribute to his late father. We're sure others who have lost someone can relate — which is what Swindell himself said. He's wrapping up his latest tour, and we're looking forward to his album, due out in the early part of 2016!
