  • Dale Watson Wants To Change Country Music With His “Ameripolitan” Sound

Dale Watson may not be a country music mega star, but the singer/songwriter and author prefers it that way.  He doesn't “do” main-stream country; he calls his sound “Ameripolitan”, a hybrid of different sounds.

His popularity is more of a cult following, with a fiercely loyal fanbase and critical acclaim.

From 1995 to 1998, he produced 4 well-received albums: “Cheatin' Heart Attack” (his debut album), “Blessed or Damned,” “I Hate These Songs” and “The Truckin' Sessions.”  Then tragedy came knocking…

Watson's fiance', Terri Lynn Herbert, died in an automobile accident on September 15, 2000 devastating Watson and haunting him to this day.

Herbert was on her way to Houston to see Watson play when she lost control of her car. It was hours before Watson would find out she was killed.  To say he felt guilt alongside his grief would be an understatement – the two had an argument the day of her death.

Watson fell into a black pit of alcohol and pills to numb his pain.  After a near-death experience and extensive therapy, he created the Terri Herbert Foundation, a scholarship for single mothers.

Now, after releasing a new album and trying to mend the pain with this foundation Watson has a new perspective.
