On his third Gospel album, released in 1972, Elvis arranged and adapted this version of “Amazing Grace” for his audiences. Because this was the last Gospel album, it would have been a shame to not have included “Amazing Grace.” As a fan favorite, this particular song is a symbol of faith, returning to “grace” and representative of that untarnished love between us and the one above. To never hear Elvis sing it… and in the way he did… would just be a sin!
Written in 1779 by an English poet, John Newton, the song exclaims about salvation, forgiveness, and redemption for past sins with the mercy of God saving the soul. The song was associated with varying melodies, but the one most recognizable didn't accompany the hymn until 1835.
There is a ton of speculation surrounding Elvis' last days. But to think of how many hearts he touched with his rendition of a song so “amazing” and with so much meaning, he had to be redeemed. Don't you think?

I know that Elvis is best known as a rock n roll singer but when he sings Amazing Grace I get the shivers and it brings tears to my eyes. I love his gospels the best.
