  • Kentucky Headhunters Revisit Sessions With Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Member Johnnie Johnson

If you haven't heard of Chuck Berry, well, have you spent your existence under a rock?  He is considered “The Father of Rock and Roll,” hitting platinum status with songs like ‘Johnny B. Goode,' ‘Maybellene' and  ‘Memphis.'  He was, above all else, an entertainer, feeding off the vibes from the audience.

But it was another musician who gave Berry his start – Johnnie Johnson.

The Sir John Trio, Johnson performed alongside Ebby Hardy and Alvin Bennett.  Set to perform a New Year's Eve event in 1952, Bennett suffered a major stroke and was unable to perform.  Johnson called on Chuck Berry to fill in and he soon became a regular member of the trio.

Chuck Berry's career took off, while Johnnie Johnson remained in the background.  Although the two collaborated for many years, Berry was definitely more well-known than Johnson.

Johnson played with other greats, including Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Bo Diddley and others.

Keep reading to find out how a musician from the 50's era became involved with the Kentucky Headhunters!
