A Thousand Horses is a story of 2 middle schools boys with big dreams. Hanging out at a local record shop, Hobby and Satcher would hold jam sessions, with Deloach joining them during the summer.
Sometimes A Thousand Horses would be paid with Beers instead of cash.
Every band has to pay their dues playing in dingy clubs to tiny crowds—that’s how they learn to turn heads. But for A Thousand Horses, the process seemed to stretch on forever.
“We played the 40 Watt in Athens, Georgia, one time,” bassist Graham DeLoach adds. “And I’m not joking you, all the rest of the bands were backstage, so the only people in the room were the two bartenders. So we were like, ‘Well, let’s practice.’”
But now that they’ve reached the big leagues, those rough gigs are starting to seem like fond memories.
“Those are the stepping stones that get you to the next place,” says Zach.
All that blood, sweat and tears worked. The band is on tour with Darius Rucker through September and will continue to play through the Fall.
