Few venues are as iconic as Gilley's in Pasadena, Texas, was in the 1980'sCountry singer, Mickey Gilley opened the massive honky-tonk in 1971 and it served as the backdrop for the movie, “Urban Cowboy.”  Gilley's was known for its multiple bars, mechanical bulls and its steel roof.

Was all the exposure and attention Gilley's garnered from the film worth it?

In honor of Gilley's 35th Anniversary, CMT is showing viewers how the movie impacted the bar's popularity. Their documentary, “Urban Cowboy: The Rise and Fall of Gilley's”, premiered June 13th on CMT.

In 2003, a new location was opened in Dallas, with the original mechanical bull, El Toro, salvaged from the fire.
