The tragedy occurred on Dec. 18, when Carmichael and his wife Brandi were eating at a mall food court with their son. As Country Rebel reports, even the best efforts of medical responders couldn't save the young boy.
According to a witness and family friend, “He fell to the floor and turned blue while everyone in the area frantically screamed for help! I then watched as complete strangers and Franklin EMS worked diligently to save this precious angel for approximately 30-40 minutes! He never gained consciousness but was transported to the hospital where I later learned he had a pulse and was being transported to Vanderbilt Children's.” Mac passed away later that day. Mac’s parents chose to donate his organs and allow their baby to save eight lives. As a way to honor little Mac, his parents have asked that donations be made to the two hospitals that worked feverishly to save Mac’s life: Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and Williamson Medical Center. “These two fabulous organizations dole out “MAC sized miracles” each and every day,” Brandi Carmichael wrote on the Mac Carmichael Fund Facebook page. The country music industry has stepped up to honor the Carmichael’s wishes. During the “It’s Christmas With John Berry” concert held in Hunter Carmichael’s hometown of Tifton, Georgia, the star helped raise more than $5,000 by raffling off an autographed guitar from Berry.
