In the fifth season, another small-town girl was discovered: Kellie Pickler. Sweet and spunky, she became one of curmudgeon Simon Cowell's favorites.
How she ended up auditioning for Idol and not incarcerated is a mystery. Her mother left when she was young and her father was in and out of jail. Her grandparents raised her, and she has said they were her greatest influences. After cheerleading in high school, she participated in beauty contests and you can see why.
Not only can she sing, she is truly a gorgeous girl.
She uses her fame for good: fundraising for St. Jude's Research Hospital, where she visits the children there on a regular basis. She helped rebuild in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and performed to raise not only awareness, but money for various organizations.
Now, she can add another title to her resume: entrepreneur.
