It took search teams almost a week to find Craig Strickland, because while he survived the overturned boat in the midst of a storm, he wondered off into a patch of brush, where he died of hypothermia. Crawling out of the lake into the patch of brush, it was hard to find him because of his choice in camouflage hunting gear.
Notified that his death was not a painful death and that he would have felt like he was simply falling asleep, Helen's heart was given just a little bit of release. She updated friends, family and fans on Twitter:
#CraigStrickland was found today. He is safe with his Father in Heaven. Thank you Lord for leading us to him today. I will praise you, Amen.
How she can be so graceful at such a sad time is inspirational. Helen is a very strong woman. The two, very much in love, were lucky to have one another for the time that they did. Reflecting their story and embracing it, we let this be a reminder that life is too precious to take our loved ones for granted… or to keep them from enjoying life in the meantime. Many can look at this situation and say his hobby caused him to lose his life — or they can look at it and say in his last hours, he was able to enjoy one of his favorite pastimes. Cherish your loved ones and embrace life every chance you can get.
Our prayers and condolences go out to the families of Chase and Craig at this time. May you find healing and joy in their memories and allow those memories to live on forever.
