  • Who Else is Experiencing this Post-Valentine’s Day Condition

Another Valentine's Day came and went and whether you're single or happily taken, I think we all enjoy when a good love song or a good breakup song comes on the radio. And then there's the songs that are right in between. Blake Shelton and Ashley Monroe recount together in their song “Lonely Tonight” the longing for one more night with the one that got away, landing the song directly between a love song and a breakup song and perfect for the remainder of February or maybe even until next February 14th rolls around. Annie Reuter at radio.com wrote a great commentary on the music video that accompanies the song:

Sometimes nights together are unexpected—there isn’t a lot of planning or romantic build-up involved. In this duet’s case, Shelton and Monroe each play characters who are alone yet toying with the idea of a hook up for “one last one more time.”

“That taste, that touch, the fire I miss/ Those kiss me eyes, your red wine lips on mine,” Shelton sings.

Monroe provides her side of the story as well, adding to Shelton’s sentiments when she joins in on the chorus. “I know we shouldn’t, but I don’t care,” she answers. “Need you, want you, I’m right here.”

True, it’s a storyline we’ve heard before, such as on Kenny Chesney‘s “Come Over,” where he begs an ex whom he said he would never call again to “come over, come over, come over, come over, come over.” Shelton and Monroe, though, make their own statement on the ‘one more time’ concept, adding two sides of the story, which also allows for some memorable harmonies.
