Sadly, Campbell's song didn't win, but as CMT reports, that hardly mattered to anyone in the audience. In fact, the performance itself was enough for fans, fellow country singers and even Campbell's family.
The song was up for best original song, which ultimately went to “Glory” by John Legend, Common and Che Smith from the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. bio-pic,Selma.
But awards or no awards, McGraw’s performance was stirring and supremely classy, a fitting tribute to the beloved country star. And thankfully, Campbell’s wife Kim and daughter Ashley were present to witness it.
We doubt there was a dry eye in the house when McGraw took the stage and honored Campbell by singing his song. We can't think of a better way to honor someone who has had such a profound on the music industry and is certain to leave a lasting legacy.
