In 1991, we were blessed with “Papa Loved Mama.” But, this song came about only, because Garth Brooks is the creative genius he is. “Freestyling” the track, he came up with what is now one of his most successful works to date! On top of almost not getting created, it almost didn't end up on Ropin' the Wind, which was already recorded at this point!
“This song is just total fun at a chaotic pace. Kim Williams and I were writing this song in the studio. We had just finished the Ropin' the Wind album, with the tenth cut being ‘Walking After Midnight.' We had one session left over with no songs whatsoever. I asked Allen if I could do something screwy by playing this ‘Papa Loved Mama' song. Kim Williams came in and we wrote the bridge right before we cut it. After we cut it, we knew that it had to make the album.”
A fan of fellow CMA and ACM award-winning Garth Brooks is Luke Bryan, who once belted into song, singing “Papa Loved Mama” in front of audiences, only to realize he missed part of the song. When starting from the beginning, fans joined in for this very special moment in history.
