Here is a list of the Top 10 Country Music Artists who have undoubtedly came out in support of gay rights, marriage equality or similar:
1. Kacey Musgraves: wrote and recorded the song
‘Follow Your Arrow’ with two gay co-writers, Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark, includ[ing] the line “make lots of noise, kiss lots of boys, or kiss lots of girls if that’s something you’re into.” Kacey Musgraves has spoken a lot about her support and love for gay people, going beyond tolerance to all-out advocate.
In addition to her actions of support shown above, she is also the first Country music artist ever to have performed at the GLAAD Awards earlier in 2014.
2. Dolly Parton has expressed how she is for gay rights and gay marriage for the past few years. She still has a huge gay following.
“I think everyone should be free to love who they want. There's not enough love in this world, so find love where you can. If you find it, consider yourself lucky.”
3. Carrie Underwood is one of the most recent examples of Country musicians supporting marriage equality.
“It is not my place to judge. I couldn't imagine not being able to marry the person I love. We should all just love one another.”
9. Willie Nelson just started showing his support publicly a couple years ago in 2013.
“People are people. All deserve equal treatment and protection under the law.”
Furthermore, he recorded one of the songs for the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack.
10. Rascal Flatts recorded the song, “Love Who You Love,” singing about their gay friends who have struggled to come out to their loved ones and/or were rejected by them once they took that leap of faith.
They did this to hopefully inspire people to try and avoid all the outside negativity and just love who makes you happy.
Hopefully our great country will act as a beacon of light to guide the rest of the world's nations to tolerance, acceptance and love. Our collective minds have come a long way to reach our current point of view. Racism and sexism have been toned down in recent decades. As a country, we can work toward multiple goals simultaneously, right?
Overall, I am optimistic on how the LGBT community will be able to prosper in society in the near future. What is your take on this issue? Which artist do you relate to most?
