
Randy Howard was on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's wanted list. He was 65 years old when he was shot and killed by a bounty hunter this past week on June 9, 2015. The bounty hunter was sent to detain Howard and unknown to both, things went awry.
Country music singer Randy Howard has been shot and killed in a gunfight with a bounty hunter.
The 65-year-old, who was wanted on a drink driving charge, was fatally injured in a shootout with an official who was sent to detain him.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) bounty hunter Jackie Shell arrived at Howard's home on Tuesday (9 June) to take him into custody, however resisting arrest, Howard opened fire. Mr Shell fired back, killing the singer. Mr Shell was also injured during the gunfight and has undergone surgery.
Howard had been charged with a fourth offence of driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and driving on a revoked licence.
A friend of Mr. Howard’s reported that he tried to take the singer to court to face his charges, but he refused.
He said he wasn’t going back to jail. That’s what he told me.
Randy Howard sure lived up to his membership to the Outlaw movement.

Randy Howard made seven hit records, one of them being ‘All American Redneck' in 1983, and also a self-titled album, Randy Howard, in 1988.
Mr. Howard had a history of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The bounty hunter had been sent to serve Randy with a bench warrant for failing to appear at a recent court date.
The singer faced charges with a fourth D.U.I. offense, driving on a revoked license, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
Friends and neighbors of the singer describe him as a kind and caring person. You would think he would have more motivation to not go back to jail by taking care of all his past offenses once and for all. This is a tragic ending to a successful career in Country music.
Bounty hunters are legal in the majority of the United States. It’s a way to find and track down people who violate their bail bond contract.

I think that kind of stuff should be in the mid-west. Having a stranger come to my door to arrest me without a badge just sounds like recipe for disaster.

Bounty hunters have been known to be at the wrong house and terrorize innocent people. And shoot innocent people only trying to defend their home. I guess if they are in the wrong house and home owner shoots them its a good day for the innocent home owner. They should be required to have uniformed officers with them to enter a home. Where I come from you kick my door in in the middle of the night you get to kiss a 12 gauge.
