The sounds of Christmas are different for everyone and in the rush of the season it's nice to slow down and simply enjoy the sounds, smells and festive lights that are indicative of this time of year. I connected with this song because of its simplicity, it's ability to bring me back to Christmas' that are long past and it made me feel connected to those who are no longer here to celebrate with me.

I shared the song with a friend of mine who, while she loved it, wanted to know why I would pick such a sad song. Sure on the surface I can see why one would think of it as a sadness, it does have that twinge of heartache but that is the bittersweetness of its melody.

When I hear Kasey Musgrave sing “Christmas Makes Me Cry” I don't feel sad, I would classify it as more of a bittersweet moment. The moment we all have around this time of year when we stop long enough to reflect on life, love, and happiness. This year as we were putting up our tree this song came on while I was handling Christmas ornaments that are representative of the people who are no longer here. Grandparents, parents who have passed and as I smiled I also shed a tear because let's face it the sadness we now feel is only an indication of the love that we hold and that my friends is not a bad thing!
