  • Blake Shelton Makes A Controversial Statement About His Fame & Fortune

When I found out what Blake has said I knew that there was another side of the story. There was no way that he would even say anything like this. There are so many people that back Blake and endorse him on a daily basis – if they would have found this to be true then he would loose everything.

If I am “Male Vocalist of the Year” that must mean that I’m one of those people now that gets to decide if it moves forward and if it moves on. Country music has to evolve in order to survive. Nobody wants to listen to their grandpa’s music. And I don’t care how many of these old farts around Nashville going, “My God, that ain’t country!” Well that’s because you don’t buy records anymore, jackass. The kids do, and they don’t want to buy the music you were buying.

After his comment, Edison Research and Saving Country Music explained how his statement was false.  Seasoned fans are the ones who still buy full albums, whereas those in the younger generation often download music content illegally. Further, the continuing evolution of country music, while also still staying true to its roots, has been the reason for recent growth in the Americana fan base.

One of his own inspirations, Ray Price, expressed how he believed that Blake Shelton has a huge ego, he's a shame to the industry, and that he does not think his music career will go much further.  Ray Price later apologized.  Dale Watson was enraged even more, took the next step, and wrote a song entitled “Old Fart (A Song for Blake).”  Others like Ray Stevens and Willie Nelson had more comments on how he conducted himself.

On the other side of the coin, Martina McBride, Chris Young, and Joe Don Rooney of Rascal Flatts defended Blake's intentions, agreeing that country music should evolve like it has been, but Blake could have been less edgy about the way he put it.

I am so glad that I am not famous.

Every thing you say, no matter how big or small, can potentially ruin your career and consequently lose yourself fans.  You never know how sensitive people who follow your words are, or who you offend.  Although, sometimes I feel that those who used to have the limelight, crave to have it back, and try to find excuses to earn the crowd's attention.

    What do you think?
