  • Glen Campbell & Willie Nelson “Funny How Time Slips Away”

I am not sure there are two bigger names in country music than Willie Nelson & Gen Campbell.

The two have been comrades in an industry that has changed drastically since the day they were both signed. They have seen stylistic changes, legal changes, technology changes and numerous other things that have come and gone over the years. They each carry with them a wisdom that only comes with having seen it all and lived to tell about it.

Thankfully for us, they tell about it through music.

It was Glen Campbell's final album that he decided to record the songs that he has loved over the years. A compilation of songs that mean the most to him regardless of what anyone or any industry thinks. One of those songs is “Funny How Time Slips Away”  Bringing in Willie Nelson to accompany him seemed like the perfect fit to a legendary career.

Campbell's longtime friend Carl Jackson spoke with Rolling Stone Country about the singer's difficulty recording the song following his Alzheimer's diagnosis. “Sometimes we had to do a line at a time because with Alzheimer's, his memory of the lyrics, as we saw in the tour he had to use teleprompters, that went away pretty quick. But his melodies did not go away for a long time after his ability to remember actual songs… I can't explain it,” he admitted.

Although Nelson released the solo version in 1961 this version struck the hearts of fans and listeners all over the world. With the grappling vocals of Nelson and the history behind the tones, it's hard not to notice the realization of the time that's gone by.
