  • Hank Williams Jr- Honky Tonk Blues

While we all love the large productions that music videos can bring there is something about stripping all of that away and getting to what really matters. The music. That is why I love acoustic versions so much. It peels back the layers of commercialism that sometimes run rampant in the music industry.

Sure lights, smoke, and fireworks can add their own element to the song but there is something wholesome and raw about a person, their lyrics and a guitar.

That is exactly what we get in this next performance.

Hank Williams Jr knows a thing or two about the limelight. His father, Hank Williams was an icon in music so growing up around the circus that goes with that is something he knows very well. That is why it was so refreshing to see him post such a stripped down version of a song originally released by his father back in 1952.

Honky Tonk Blues” has been covered by many artists since then, including the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Waylon Jennings, and Don Williams. Hank Jr. also recorded his own rendition of the song in 1965, which was overdubbed as a duet with his father. He later recorded it with his son Hank III for the 1996 album Three Hanks: Men with Broken Hearts.

So take a listen and let us know what you think.
