
Kelsea Ballerini may be a big star now, but her career started when she walked into the office of Gordon Kerr, CEO of Black River Entertainment. Back then, she was a songwriter with the label, but after she asked Kerr if she could play some songs for him, a career was launched.
And what a launch it was! When Ballerini’s debut single “Love Me Like You Mean It,” hit number 1 on the charts, it was one for the record books. The last time a female solo artist hit number 1 was 2012, and the last time a debut single from a female solo artist hit number 1 was 2006.
However, even with all the focus on Ballerini’s status as a role model and inspiration for other women, she doesn’t want to focus on gender.
