The “Okie From Muskogee” Is Head to the Grammy Hall of Fame!
We doubt anyone would argue that singer-songwriter Merle Haggard was a country music legend, and an inspiration for countless country crooners who came after him. His straightforward lyrics represented the thoughts, feelings and concerns of the common man, and millions of people related to his words and his knack for telling it like it is. If there was any ever doubt of just what a cultural the late country singer is, however, it's sure to be eliminated with his latest honor: being inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for his song “Okie From Muskogee.”
Only a handful of songs made the cut, all of which were chosen because they've stood the test of time and because they had profound cultural influence. It's certainly a diverse selection, but these songs really represent the best of what the American music scene has to offer! Haggard is definitely in good company and we think every song on the list is pretty cool!
