I will admit that country radio today is not the same as it used to be. There are still come amazing artists out there in my opinion and some icons that have stood the test of time and are still belting out hit after hit but there is a new wave of country stars on the rise and it's making some that have gone before them shake their head.
Lorrie Morgan is the most recent star to speak out
“I really don’t even know what current country music is anymore,” Lorrie Morgan said. “I am as flabbergasted as anyone and have no idea what is country and what is not anymore. I am not a fan of country today. Me and Pam Tillis are going to go into the studio soon and record a traditional country album. Today’s country can’t be differentiated between pop, and you can’t tell them apart. Don’t mistake what I am saying, I love pop music. If you are going to be in the country category and call yourself a country artist, then stick with it.”
Merle Haggard was never one to mince words either. He was quoted as saying
“There are two or three kids out there trying to make good music, and the rest of them sound like it's been strained through some kind of white toast or something. It all sounds just too neat and perfect, with no surprise to it at all. No story, no nothing. It's like building cars, like an assembly line. It doesn't sound like anything that came from a guitar.” Merle Haggard
The fact is that it is changing but I like to believe that there is still a touch of the south that ripples through every cord. Sure some of it is manufactured and over produced but if you look the good ones are still out there. Just waiting for you to listen.
Then you just don’t like country music that’s all you have that right

Barbra mandrel,George Jones said it.I was country when country wasn’t cool. New stuff is just to (sell)to the younger generation. Been going down hill for a long time. I’ve been listening to Hank fm to keep my sanity!!!!!!!

George Jones, Conway Twitty, George Strait, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Randy Travis! All great country artists that I enjoy listening too but that doesn’t mean that I can’t enjoy Darius Rucker, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney or Jason Aldean.

I have 300+ old country cd’ s. Don’t even put the radio on anymore just listen to my oldies.
I agree, Lori, we need more artists to keep it country. It seems the younger generation wants to mold it into their idea of country music instead of loving country music for what it was.
I think someone missed the point alanJackson is true country and so is Sammy Kershaw so dont leave them out

She hit the nail on the head. Some of this so-called country music sounds like a repeat of all the rest of the new comers. Every once in a while you may hear a good country song come out.
Corporations who own the radio stations and record labels are the reason for this! Notice any of the bigger name artist from the past who started their own record labels getting air play? They have yanked the Nashville & Texas sound out with fiddles and steel guitars and replaced it with pop and rap. They claim they do study groups and get their responses to what they like and want played, but they fail to tell you the study groups they listen to are located in New York and California! They push club music that is mostly about partying, not the heart felt country music as we could have heard on radio in the past. I haven’t listen to an over the air country station in the past couple of years. Thank God for internet radio and places like YouTube that you can still hear country music. I challenge anyone who has the power to start a new format that plays new music by country music artist from the past few decades and last see who has the most listeners!
